Dr. Jim was born in Chicago in the mid-fifties. His father was an electrician, while his mother raised five children. He attended Lane Technical High School and then went to Northwestern University in Evanston for his undergraduate degree. In 1976, Dr. Jim graduated with a Bachelor's degree in biologic sciences, and received academic excellence awards.
He then attended The University of Illinois Medical Center where he received a second Bachelor's degree in dentistry. The study of moving teeth (Orthodontics) was always an interest to him. He wrote his dissertation and several papers on the subject of predicting growth patterns in children and studied basic tooth movement as part of the dental school curriculum. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree in June of 1980.
Orthodontics (braces) was a part of Dr. Jim's practice from the start. Numerous courses in advanced training followed. The straight wire / Wilson technique revolutionized Orthodontic treatment. For over 30 years Dr. Jim has created beauty and function in hundreds of patients.
In 1999 Dr. Jim was asked to join the Board of Directors of the Willow Creek Community Church Medical Ministry. As the representative dentist, he started the Dental Ministry with six volunteer doctors serving the poor in our community.
In 1997 and 1998 Dr. Jim traveled to the Dominican Republic to give dental care to the under-served people living in a remote rural area. He was part of a team of doctors, nurses and a surgeon that all volunteered their time.
